Is Heroine based on Manisha Koirala?

Manisha Koirala, the Nepali beauty who shot to dizzying heights of stardom in the 90s, saw it spiralling down by mid-2005 because of her alcohol abuse and lack of self-esteem.

Her life was almost an open book because she was often spotted in a drunken stupor in public and also went through some tumultuous relationships that got a lot of media attention.

Now, reliable sources say that Madhur Bhandarkar's 'Heroine', starring Kareena Kapoor, is reportedly inspired by the ups and downs in Manisha's personal and professional life.

Madhur, however, denies drawing inspiration from Manisha's life. "No, my film is not based on anyone in particular."

The National Award-winning filmmaker known for borrowing heavily from real life says, "I've been asked whether it is based on the life of Marilyn Monroe and many others. 'Heroine' takes nothing out of any particular actor's life."
